A Year In Review!

Sehriban Sorge Dec. 28, 2018

What a year it has been for jobpal! As a small company, we'd like to share our biggest achievements and learnings before moving into the next year.

There has been a lot of travelling, presenting, sweating; but also smiling within the past 12 months. We would like to highlight each of our proudest moments in 2018.

Top 10 Highlights

We asked the whole team for their most memorable occasions and here’s to the top 10:

1. We improved the system security and data privacy!

Our tech team focused on the overall system security, data privacy and performed security penetration, testing and fixed all the issues. Moreover, they migrated to the database with encryption at rest.

2. We implemented data quality procedures throughout the project management process!

This effort allowed us to improve the performance of all FAQ sets by 10-25% classification accuracy. If you’d like to learn more about FAQ quality and performance, just check out our detailed blogpost about it here.

3. We are supporting not only English and German, but also Polish, Chinese, and French languages in custom projects!

In all cases, we pack own language models based on the FastText corpus which allows much better non-english performance than possible out of the box.
As a team, we speak 14 languages, and love working on perfecting the small, essential details of conversational UIs in the languages we support.

4. We have adapted to comply with the GDPR rules!

With the new General Data Protection Regulation that has been introduced in May 2018, there were many, new challenges that our tech team had to face. We found a solution by becoming a fully compliant vendor.

5. We have our own office!

This might not seem like a big deal to others but for the whole jobpal team, this event has been one of the best highlights. Before moving into our own office in October this year, we were sharing a space with another startup. While it was great to sit together with likeminded people, we’re very happy about our own office space.

6. We extended the FAQ system!

This year we also improved the quality of our NLP engine. In addition, the dashboard now allows immediate testing of the training set with a “Try It now” feature. We also provide more in-depth analytics for our customers.

7. One of our biggest clients went LIVE within 6 weeks!

A major client project this year has been with a company with over 100,000 employees! From initial conversations to deployment, we have improved all aspects from the design stages with only a 6 week go-live window to including custom features and data quality support. This speaks volumes of how jobpal provides for efficient operations.

Another important milestone was the collaboration with HR digitization & transformation consultancy, Promerit. On top of everything we quadrupled our clients!

8. We won awards!

Winning both the HR and Innovation award in the recruiting & attraction category and the Gartner award only confirmed jobpal’s mission: Fundamentally changing the recruiting industry by combining HR & technology. Being awarded and recognized by others also helps jobpal and its team to improve and develop into a bigger and better organisation. We feel very honored to have experienced these moments in 2018.

9. We hired more working students!

Our working students bring fresh and exciting ideas, widen internal language support and improve our research capacity.

10. New website! New blog! New Youtube Channel!

We completely revamped our branding this year to better portrait reflect our core values and attributes. The rebrand involved, colors, fonts, domains, social media channels — everything that has to do with how we present ourselves to the world. This has been a big step and helped us to grow to where we are today. Included in this step were also a new website and a blog, space for us to share news, updates and relevant content. We also updated our YouTube channel with case studies and much more! The most-read article on our blog this year has by far been our news update about WhatsApp opening up their business API. More than 1,000 of you read that blog post! Hung Lee even featured it in his industry newsletter “Recruiting Brainfood”.

Ending 2018 with...

Another year went by and we feel very proud of the overall results. As a small company, we know there’s more work to do and we can reach our goals by continuing to learn and improve. There’re many other heights we intend to reach and we look forward to 2019.

Overall, our whole team couldn’t be happier with the growth of this organisation into an international, creative and effective team with all its team members, who worked above and beyond and continue to reach their goals. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude towards everyone who believed in our product and vision.
